Derek Madden is the founder of Health and Safety Manager (www.healthandsafetymanager.ie), a consultancy practice
in the area of Health, Safety and Risk/Claims management. Derek advises his clients to use the Digiprove
service when reporting accidents to their insurers.
Recently one of his clients received a letter from their insurance company refusing to underwrite a personal
injury claim, on the basis that the accident had not been properly reported to the insurance company. The
insured party was adamant that they had indeed told their insurers of the accident, but the insurance company
would not back down. This was potentially very serious for the insured party as the cost of the claim and
trying to defend it would be measured in tens of thousands of Euro.
Luckily however, the accident had happened after the company began to use the Digiprove service. As they
had used Digiprove's certified email service to report the accident they had a time-stamped and dated proof
of despatch of the scanned copy of the accident report form. On production of this evidence the insurance
company was forced to back down and cover the costs of the claim.
Derek said "This incident illustrates the real financial benefits of the Digiprove service, and we are delighted
that we advised our clients to use it." Digiprove CEO Cian Kinsella said "Digiprove in this case acted as
an extra level of insurance, and it illustrates that being able to prove compliance can have a real money pay-back
far in excess of the cost."
